New Year Links
As 2009 ended and the new decade began, we were all treated to all sorts of lists both looking back and looking ahead. There are two in particular that spoke to justice issues that are well worth the read.
First is Bono’s op-ed piece for the New York Times. As he describes the list – “So here, then, are 10 ideas that might make the next 10 years more interesting, healthy or civil. Some are trivial, some fundamental. They have little in common with one another except that I am seized by each, and moved by its potential to change our world.” His list is varied including everything from making (eco) cars sexy to how a meeting of artists is what will bring real change in the Middle East. It’s creative and gives some great things to think about as we move forward towards a better world.
Also fascinating was the post at the Burnside Writers Collective blog on the Top Ten Social Justice Trends of the Past Decade. Interestingly Bono is listed as one of those trends, and Everyday Justice even gets a shout-out. But justice is something the church can no longer ignore and this post helps map out why.
